The Joyful Idea

The media do a great job of showing us the down-side of life, exposing us to negative images – disaster, conflict and tragedy, failure and sadness. You could pick up the idea that the world is a pretty miserable place.

We don’t see it like that. At Joyful Pictures we are creating an inspirational collection of images that send out a positive message – focusing on the times when things go well. We want our images to show us at our best wherever the place, whatever the situation. And as the collection builds we are going to use it to inspire, encourage and nurture.

We see all sorts of ways in which Joyful Pictures can make us feel better about the world we live in and aim to use our worldwide collection to create a beautiful book of positive inspired images - possibly the happiest book in the world!

Flying to reach the sun

'I saw this my friend playing in the rain. He was a street child like me. I was so excited to take this picture, to capture the expression of freedom' The Street Vision project was set up in 1998 and has, to date, trained over 180 street and disadvantaged young people in photographic skills. Through photography, all the students have gained self-esteem, a sense of purpose and fun and a means through which they can combat society's negative image of them.
