Here at Joyful Pictures we will be trying to make you feel better about the world we live in. We want to celebrate life by highlighting those parts of it that make us happy

And we’ll need your help to do it

Of course, we know that it's not possible to be happy all the time, but there is strong evidence now to show that positive emotion can broaden our attention and thinking, whereas negative emotion tends to narrow our outlook and close down creativity and the generation of ideas. Positive emotions also help us to build durable personal resources, which can be valuable even during and after crisis.

To make this a great site we need your photographs - amateur or professional.  We are looking for photographs that are life-affirming and smile-inducing!  We need the kind of pictures that speak to something deep-down inside us and capture the true emotions of everyday life when we feel optimistic and things go well.  We all have photographs like this - so why not share them on joyfulpictures.com

We aim to upload 1000 uplifting images to make this site take flight.  Our collection grows daily but there is still plenty of opportunity for you to become part of this unique photo site.  And with so much happiness in one place we intend to use the site to generate income for a selection of carefully chosen charities – putting a little happiness back into the world.

Add to the ‘ joyful picture’ ... Send us your 'positively inspired' photographs for inclusion in our online gallery.

Professional fee-earning opportunities

As this site takes shape, and the idea has already caught the interest of key decision makers from the media, business, education and healthcare sectors, we aim to develop a selection of our archive into a professional, fee-earning photo library which will benefit both the photographer and a range of carefully select charities.

Of all the professional photo libraries this one will be unique in its approach of linking positive imagery with positive psychology - a subject that is grabbing the attention of governments and researchers worldwide.  However, as we are in our embryo stage, we would be delighted if you would consider adding to our growing collection of professional contributors and exhibiting some of your most positively inspiring work in our online gallery.

'I saw this my friend playing in the rain. He was a street child like me. I was so excited to take this picture, to capture the expression of freedom' The Street Vision project was set up in 1998 and has, to date, trained over 180 street and disadvantaged young people in photographic skills. Through photography, all the students have gained self-esteem, a sense of purpose and fun and a means through which they can combat society's negative image of them.
